Four Frigates capturing Spanish treasure ships
Four frigates capturing Spanish treasure ships (5 October 1804) by Francis Sartorius, National Maritime Museum
Of interesting note: Spanish frigate Mercedes is blown up at the battle of Cape St. Mary as depicted, on 5th October 1804. The Amphion was alongside ; only 40 of Mercedes crew were rescued by the Amphion’s boats. It was Captain Graham Moore who commanded the four British frigates. This was the incident that caused the declaration of war by Spain to the United Kingdom in 1804.
